Boasting a rich history, a welcoming community, and a vibrant downtown, the small city of New Prague, Minnesota, has no shortage of great restaurants and eateries to check out. Whether you’re looking for something resembling fast-casual or you’re in the mood for something a little fancier, New Prague and its suburbs have it all. The next time you feel like eating out or ordering some takeout, consider checking out these seven excellent restaurants in the area.

Fishtale Bar and Grill

Featuring tasty fish meals, traditional American fare, and internationally acclaimed dishes, the Fishtale Bar and Grill is perfect if you’re desiring a restaurant with a cozy ambiance. The grill has been proudly serving New Prague residents since 1995, and its daily specials are especially popular. The menu features a myriad of tasty appetizers, including crispy shrimp wraps, sesame-seared tuna, nachos, fishtail wings, smoked salmon, and onion rings.

Beyond appetizers, the Fishtale Bar and Grill also serves filling soups and salads, sandwiches, and burgers. Its popular main entrees include grilled salmon glazed with a mouth-watering bourbon soy sauce, jumbo shrimp served either breaded or boiled, and a whopping 10-ounce hamburger steak topped with sauteed onions and mushrooms. The restaurant also offers a special Sunday Breakfast, available between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. It features a number of tasty egg dishes, as well as French toast and pancakes. You can find Fishtale Bar and Grill at 200 10th Ave.

Ettlins Cafe

Ettlins Cafe is another great restaurant serving fresh American food, including what many residents consider to be some of the best burgers in the area. Each burger contains grass-fed beef and comes with a choice of tangy coleslaw, chewy French fries, or soft cottage cheese. Served on a soft pretzel bun, the German Burger is especially popular, as is the Angry Hen Burger, which includes bacon, a fried egg, crispy lettuce, a fresh tomato, and red onion.

The cafe is a must if you’re a lover of unique dishes. For a more intricate lunch, you have the option of ordering the Bavarian Hunter made with traditional Landjager sausage straight from Germany, or the Czech Burger complete with sauerkraut. Ettlins Cafe also offers numerous breakfast options, including French toast and omelets that are hard to beat. If you feel like cooking, the cafe even sells cook-at-home meal kits that serve families of four. The cafe is conveniently located at 208 4th Ave. SW in the industrial part of New Prague.

Lau’s Czech Bakery

Right in the heart of downtown New Prague at 121 Main St. W lies Lau’s Czech Bakery, a cozy, family-owned bakery that offers traditional Czech food and an array of sweet treats. The bakery’s lunch menu includes hamburgers, cheeseburgers, BLTs, Rubens, fish baskets, chicken wraps, and corn dogs. Lighter sandwiches like chicken salad, egg salad, and sloppy joes are also available. It’s doughnuts where the bakery really shines, and if you’re craving one or eight, you’ll find both doughnuts and cronuts of all sizes sold by the bag or box.

Carbone’s Pizza and Sports Bar

Carbone’s Pizza and Sports Bar has been southeastern Minnesota’s go-to place for pizza lovers for well over 50 years. Located at 825 1st St. SE, this fast-casual joint is famous for its vibrant atmosphere and 14 specialty pizzas. Such pizzas include the Super Pie, which is decked with three different kinds of meat as well as extra cheese and peppers galore. The Buffalo Chicken, the Chicken Alfredo, and the Tuscan Sausage are also great options.

Carbone’s also serves more than just pizza, and its extended menu includes an array of sandwiches, burgers, and wings. The wing menu features 14 different sauces and six dry rubs ranging from Desert Heat to House Special. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Carbone’s Burger is a must. This burger features the restaurant’s own secret blend of seasoned brisket, short rib, and chuck.

St Patrick’s Tavern & Restaurant

Since opening, St Patrick’s Tavern & Restaurant has become a popular place to grab a bite to eat and catch the big game. The restaurant’s pub-inspired menu includes a variety of burgers, including the popular St. Patrick’s Special — a 5-ounce burger with cheese, Canadian bacon, lettuce, tomato, and onion. Chicken, soups, salads, baskets, and pizzas are also available. Weekend specials featuring seafood dishes, lunch specials from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a happy hour from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. add to the fun.

The bar features everything from traditional beer to seasonal cocktails. Live music, fun events like bingo nights, karaoke, and friendly staff keep St. Patrick’s Tavern hopping just about every night of the week.
